Finding Our Purpose!

The last couple of weeks I have been struggling with remembering the Sovereignty of God. Thus speaks the ego of one who loves to be “in control.”  One Sunday I came across much comfort in the book of Colossians. I began to realize that life is truly all about our purpose and that our very life belongs to God. We are simply not apt to remember that fact. Here is what the Apostle Paul says in  2nd Colossians vs. 1-7.
I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me, personally. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. ”

Wonderful words full of meaning of not only Paul’s purpose, but also about “treasures of wisdom and knowledge” wrapped up in Christ ( the “mystery of God”.) How delightfully expressed! All we have to do is to “continue to live in him”. That is the most difficult whether we grew up with the stories of the Christian Faith or we have never heard them and simply have no clue what Paul is talking about here. The task therefore, is to begin at the beginning…with where the world stood before Jesus was ever born. Which is where we are when we are trying to figure out our purpose and how we make a difference in a world that challenges our hearts every day.
