A Happy Heart

February has a special connection to our hearts. There is Valentine’s Day and Heart Month. We share our love with family and friends on this very special day each year. One more way to share our love with others is to keep a healthy heart. There is research that supports the theory that optimism is good for our heart. One study showed that being optimistic improves cardiovascular health, better blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Also, finding humor in everyday situations and focusing on laughing and smiling boosts our health. Optimistic people tend to live longer. In Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) ” A cheerful heart is good medicine.”
A great way to share our optimism is with a friendly smile.
The following is a poem by my friend Clayton Brewer, a member of West Park Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN.

A  Smile
A SMILE is an expression we know,

To show pleasantries as through life we go;
Circumstances around one may be detected,
From sadness we can be protected.
A SMILE may be measured in length,
Or cause or purpose or even intent;
It may be large covering the entire face,
Unhappiness it will erase.
A SMILE will last and last,
Just how long is determined by how often it is passed;
So give one away to all that you meet,
It is a wonderful way new folk to greet.
Put on  A SMILE and pass it along,
Soon over all the world a smile might be found;
It costs you nothing so give it away,
Everyone that you meet will have a happier day!

This is a wonderful quote from Mother Teresa. “Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”
