Music of Christmas

Music is a beloved part of the Christmas season. From the Messiah’s Hallelujah” chorus to Burl Ives singing “A Holly Jolly Christmas” music brings precious memories. As I was shopping at the mall, I heard people humming along to the Christmas music. with smiles on their faces. Christmas parties always have seasonal music. ” White Christmas” and “Silver Bells” are two of my favorite holiday songs.

Churches have Christmas cantatas and beautiful Midnight services with sweet music. Christmas carols give us joy and peace. I have special memories of singing around the piano “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” The First Noel,” It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Silent Night,” “What Child Is This,” and many more songs about Jesus’ birth. When Isaac Watts wrote “Joy To The World” he was expressing the Second Coming of Jesus. The words read ” Joy to the world, the Lord is come.” Sometimes the word IS is changed to HAS for Christmas. No matter. The birth of Jesus and His return are “Good news of Great Joy.’

May you always have a song in your heart!

Joy the the World
Words by: Isaac Watts
Music By: George F. Handel

Joy to the  world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare His room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! the Savior reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods,
rocks, hills and plains,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the grounds;
He comes to make His blessing flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with true and grace,
And makes the nations prove,
The glories of  His righteousness,
And wonders of  His love,
And wonders of  His love,
And wonders, wonders of His love.
