Magnolia time

“June is bustin’ out all over.” This is one of my favorite songs from the musical Oklahoma. The magnolia and mimosa trees are blooming. The birds sing early each morning. A beautiful time to enjoy all the blessings of  summer. Yes, it is hot! A glass of sweet ice tea and icebox pie will cool us down, just in time to enjoy the fireflies at night.
The last 15 months have been filled with constant stress and caution. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused so many worrisome thoughts of health for family, friends, medical professionals, police, restaurant and shop owners, and the world’s  health.  God has heard every prayer. A praise song says “Do you hear the sound of worship?” God hears all our sounds, rather voiced or silently.

As the months continue, the hymn “Be Still, My Soul” can provide peace and rest to our soul.

Be Still, My Soul
1)Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side;

Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, the heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2)Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.
3)Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Amen

Psalm 46:10 (RSV) “Be still, and know that I am God.
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth!”
