Christmas Prayer

And the angel said unto them, "Fear not; for, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Luke 2:10 (King James)

Hark, the herald angels sing, "Glory to the new born King; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled." Joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies; With the angelic hosts proclain, "Christ is born in Bethlehem!" Hark, the herald angels sing, "Glory to the new born King."

I always enjoy seeing the Rockefeller Christmas tree in New York City each year.  The tree is so beautiful, with the trumpet angels leading the way along the plaza walkway to the tree. It brings so much joy to thousands of people each year.  I have had the joy of seeing the tree two times, once in a beautiful Christmas snow and the other with my dear friend, Janine. Both times my brother, who lives in New York City, has been there to share this happy experience.

Dear God, once again we come to you with a heavy heart.  We know that you say, "Come to me little children."  You have received 20 precious children into your arms. Along with 6 adults that loved and protected the other children from harm. Lord, we ask that you continue to comfort this grieving town and the nation. As the Christmas carol says, "Silent night, Holy night, sleep in heavenly peace."  The children are resting in your loving arms. Lord, bring peace and comfort to these families.

May the joy of this season be shared with family and friends throughout the world.  Once again as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, let us reflect on Jesus as the Light of the world, shining for all to see his glory. May we show the meaning of Christmas through our giving of kindness, compassion, and love for others all year.  Lord, continue to grant us mercy and peace in our spiritual growth for the coming year.

In God's Holy name,
Amen
