2021; A Year of New Beginnings

2021 is going to be a year of great anticipation, new beginnings, hope, and promises. A time to look forward to jobs returning, multiple family gatherings, lots of hugs, eating inside a restaurant, travel, and music of all genres. A world becoming Covid-19 virus free with the much needed vaccine. May the Lord’s everlasting love flourish in our hearts and mind.
Isiah 43:18-19 (RSV) Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Dr. Howard Thurman (1899-1981) was a theologian, civil rights leader, educator, and author. Martin Luther King, Jr. was greatly influenced by Thurman. Thurman became the first African American to be Dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University. In 1944, Dr. Alfred Fisk and Dr. Thurman started the first Interracial Interfaith Church in San Francisco. Thurman wrote several books including Meditations of the Heart, and Disciples of the Spirit. The following is one of his quotes:
“When the song of the angels are stilled,
When the star in the sky is over,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flocks,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among all,
To make music in the heart.”

May the Lord bless you and keep you in 2021.
